Number of children growing up in poverty to hit 3.1 million this year, up almost 50 per cent since 2010

One million more children in working households are growing up in poverty than did so in 2010, largely because of cuts to in-work benefits and public sector pay freezes, research for the Trades Union Congress has found.

A study by Landman Economics found that child poverty in working families will hit 3.1 million in the 2018-19 tax year up almost 50 per cent from 2.1 million when the coalition government came to power.

Around 600,000 of those children have been pushed into poverty by pay freezes and benefits cuts, the study calculated. Weak wage growth and the spread of insecure work have also contributed the overall rise of one million, while some is a result of population growth.

Just a week before the beginning of Ramadan the Holy month in the Islamic calendar, Muslims Globally will refrain from any food/water during the day (sunrise to sunset), this month brings us the opportunity to strengthen our faith, control our desires and reflect on ourselves as individuals. Many who celebrated Ramadhan last year may have passed away (may the heavens be open for them) and as every year many will fast for days due to food & water shortages

Let’s takes this opportunity to give to those who will be joining us in the day but be apart at the time of Iftaar, while we indulge in tasty delights they’ll be looking for anything to break their fast with.

We at GiftingHumanity will work through the Holy Month of Ramadhan, delivering food supplies to those most vulnerable. We all know many will be taking out their Zakat (payment made annually under Islamic law on certain kinds of property and used for charitable and religious purposes, one of the Five Pillars of Islam), giving Lilla or Sadaqah any donation you send to GiftingHumanity, 100% of it will be used towards your chosen cause (if selected) or the most needy cause.

May the month bring you Happiness, Success and a Character which naturally helps anyone and everyone.
If you would like to speak to a member of our team or to donate over the phone, please call 0116 212 1822 or click to Donate online

Zakaat: Payment made annually under Islamic law on certain kinds of property and used for charitable and religious purposes, one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

Zakat al-Fitr: Zakat al-Fitr is charity given to the poor at the end of the fasting in the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The Arabic word Fitr means the same as iftar, breaking a fast, and it comes from the same root word as Futoor which means breakfast

Sadaqah: Sadaqah, meaning 'charity', is the concept of voluntary giving in Islam. The term stems from the Arabic root word 'sidq', which means sincerity. ... Described in the Holy Qur'an as 'a beautiful loan', sadaqah encompasses any act of charitable giving done out of compassion, love, friendship or generosity

Fidyah and Kaffarah: Fidyah (Arabic: الفدية‎) and Kaffara (Arabic: كفارة‎) are religious donations made in Islam when a fast (notably in Ramadan) is broken. The donations can be of food, or money, and it is used to feed those in need. They are mentioned in the Qur'an which distinguishes the two, but unifies them into one idea.

Interest: To avoid the anger of Allah, one should give the interest money accumulated to charity. This, whilst being the most practically beneficial way of disposing the money, is not going to be positively rewarding. But due to it being in accordance with Allah's Will, in that this method of disposal saves one from further sin, it is still beneficial.

Lillah: Lillah meaning 'for Allah', comprises any form of charity given in the cause of Allah on a pure voluntary basis. This charitable giving is over and above the Zakah that one is liable for.

Sadaqah Wajibah: is also another binding charity and includes Sadaqah al Fitr which is similar to Zakat as it has to be distributed with the same intention and rules as described by the Quran. It varies in some though since it is not required to be only given to Muslims.

Admin: Running of Charity: All costs involved in running the charity.

Series 1 Episode 1 is  on BBC iPlayer. - https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0b1v4jp/syria-the-worlds-war-series-1-episode-1

In this two-part series, Lyse Doucet tells the story of one of the biggest humanitarian crises of our age, the Syrian civil war - seven years of brutal conflict, surpassing the length of World War II. Lyse, who has reported on the conflict from the start, explores how peaceful protest for change spiralled into unspeakable savagery - half a million people killed, millions of lives shattered and so much of Syria in utter ruins.

The series tells the inside story of the war from multiple perspectives. It hears accounts of the experiences of Syrian people from different sides - civilians and fighters who stayed loyal to the government of President Assad, as well as those who rebelled. To gain greater understanding of how this catastrophe unfolded, Lyse also speaks to leading politicians and soldiers from within Syria and also from western and regional powers, including John Kerry, David Petraeus, General Lord David Richards and William Hague.

In this first episode, Lyse tracks of the first months of the uprising through to the chemical attack in Ghouta that finally revealed the reluctance of the US to intervene in the war, despite the crossing of President Obama's 'red line' on chemical weapons. It starts by telling the story of two characters in Homs - one a protester, the other a government loyalist. Lyse shows how each viewed the protests from a different perspective. One saw them as a chance for democracy and freedom, the other saw them as violent and threatening. Within weeks the government had responded to the demonstrations with violence. The government claims this is because some protesters were armed - something that is denied. By speaking to politicians in the west and the Gulf, Lyse learns how those outside Syria watched with growing despair as protests slid into civil war.
